During the ongoing Lok Sabha (LS) session, Kangra MP Kishan Kapoor on Thursday raised the issue of rail connectivity between Dalhousie and Pathankot.
During the Zero Hour, the MP requested the Railway Ministry to consider the proposal of connecting Dalhousie with the Pathankot (Chakki Bank) rail line. “Since Chamba is an aspirational district, more attention is needed towards its development,” he said.
The MP said Chamba district of is famous for its rich culture, historicity and natural aura among domestic and foreign tourists. “The district, spread over 6,500 sq km, shares boundary with J&K on one side and Punjab on the other. Fifty per cent population of the district belongs to Scheduled Castes and Schedules Tribes. Moreover, the district provides ample opportunities for pilgrimage as well as adventure tourism,” he added.
Referring to the historical background of Dalhousie, Kapoor said the place was also related to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and freedom fighter Ajit Singh, the uncle of revolutionary Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Also, Dalhousie is just 85 km away from the Pathankot railway station.
