Connectivity to Lahaul village restored after over a week
After a prolonged disruption due to heavy snowfall, the road connecting Yoche village in Lahaul and Spiti district to the district headquarters, Keylong, has been restored today by the Public Works Department (PWD). The vital route had been blocked since December 27, forcing villagers to endure a 10-km walk through snowy terrain to reach the nearest point connected by road to Keylong.
The villagers, who relied heavily on the road for the transportation of goods, medical emergencies and daily essentials, had called for the immediate restoration of the road to ease their struggles. The residents had appealed to the district administration and Lahaul and Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana for swift action to clear the snow and reopen the route.
Responding to the urgent demands, Lahaul and Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana had instructed the PWD to begin snow clearance operations as soon as possible. Yesterday, weather was clear in Lahaul and Spiti and taking its advantage, the PWD had engaged workforce and machinery to clear the road and restored it to traffic today.
“Restoring connectivity to Yoche village was a priority, especially with the risk to residents’ safety. Our efforts have now ensured that the road is clear and accessible once again,” MLA Rana said.
The restoration of the road has brought much-needed relief to the villagers, ensuring smoother transportation and easier access to medical services during the winter months.
