ROW OVER RENT
- Heated exchanges witnessed between ward 14 councillor and a nominated member over non-payment of Rs 3 lakh rent by organisers for Himachal Utsav held at the Thodo ground last year
- The Municipal Corporation had imposed Rs 50,000 per day rent for the ground
- No decision could be taken due to the lack of consensus in the House
Officiating Mayor Mira Anand said the firm should first deposit Rs 3 lakh. No decision could be taken due to the lack of consensus in the House and the issue was kept in abeyance. ]
She said the issue can be resolved in the presence of the representatives of the firm concerned.
The corporation had imposed Rs 50,000 per day rent for the ground, but the organisers had opposed it on the plea that they had been holding the fair for decades for the promotion of sports and other activities.
The MC had dubbed the fair a commercial activity that fetched lakhs as income by way of auctioning of stalls and other paid activities.
It was also decided to rework on the rental of shops owned by the corporation even as the councillors pointed out that nature of work should also be looked into while deciding the rent. It was also decided that the House will be informed every month about buildings that had been given NOC by approving their maps under the retention policy.
Seven to eight buildings have been approved as per the norms till now.
It was decided that three parking lots would be constructed near the fire brigade building, at old bus stop and on the civic body premises.
