He says that writing and singing songs in the local dialect has been his passion since 1998. “My first song ‘Ghar chhuti ayee ja foujia’ (come home on leave, army man) was released in 2003 through an audio-video CD which had been uploaded in his YouTube channel in 2013”, he said.

The folk singer’s songs are usually based on Himachali culture, patriotism and social issues and have attracted lakhs of viewers on his YouTube channel, ‘Prem Sharma official’.

He said over Rs 30,000 were spent in recording a song but after launching his YouTube channel, he receives offers for singing from other users which saves his pocket money, besides some royalty amount that is received by users.
