Construction of Khaddar village school building to begin soon: Education minister

Education Minister Rohit Thakur today attended the annual prize distribution ceremony of the Government Senior Secondary School, Khaddar in Chopal, Shimla district, as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion he said Rs 30 lakh had been approved for the construction of the school building, and its construction work would begin soon.

The minister said, “This school is an old and prestigious institution. In the previous year’s academic session, the school achieved a 100 per cent result in Class 10 and 12 exams. To strengthen the school’s infrastructure, local villagers took an admirable initiative by spending Rs 16 lakh to purchase three bighas of land.”

The minister also said that in the past three years, the state government had undertaken several transformative initiatives to improve the quality of education, resulting in remarkable progress in the state.

“So far, around 7,000 regular teachers of various categories have been appointed. The process to fill more than 9,000 additional posts is underway, which includes 1,170 TGTs, 1,762 JBTs, 37 lecturers (PWD), 69 C&V teachers, and 6,292 NTT teachers,” he said.

Thakur also extended his best wishes to students as well as the faculty members of the school for organising the function. The school principal presented details of the activities conducted throughout the year. He also apprised the minister of other ongoing initiatives in the school. He emphasised on the need for regular inspections of schools to ensure accountability.

The minister further said, “The present Congress government has decided to introduce English-medium education from Class 1 itself so that students from rural backgrounds can progress with changing times.”

“Additionally, meritorious students are sent abroad to understand and learn from educational systems of other countries. Due to efforts of the current government, the state has performed exceptionally well in the ASER and NAS surveys,” Thakur said.
