The Jogindernagar police have apprehended Haryish Chandra, a resident of Gahar village, for allegedly poaching animals and for possessing wildlife remains.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police conducted a search on Chandra’s house and livestock shed, where they found a leopard skin, including the tail, concealed and wrapped. A firearm was also found in a wooden cabinet, though it had a valid licence. The estimated value of the leopard skin is Rs 5 lakh.
Mandi SP Sakshi Verma stated that a case under Section 51(A) of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, had been registered at Jogindernagar Police Station, and further investigations were underway. The SP emphasised the importance of protecting wildlife and continuing efforts against wildlife trade in the district.
