Kavita clinched the women’s singles title, while Ankesh emerged winner in the men’s singles category as the first District Police Badminton Championship concluded at the SAI Sports Complex here on Sunday evening. The event, organised by the district police, witnessed enthusiastic participation from 50 men and 20 women police personnel.
During the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh urged participants to play with sportsmanship and discipline. Appreciating the initiative of Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhagat Singh Thakur, he said such events foster brotherhood and camaraderie among colleagues and should become a regular feature in the police department’s calendar.
In other events, Anjana and Kavita bagged the women’s doubles title, while Sabir and Deepak emerged winners in the men’s doubles category. In mixed doubles, Pankaj and his wife Sunita claimed the top honours.
Speaking on the occasion, the SP said the championship was organised to encourage police personnel to actively participate in sports and physical activities. “Such programmes provide much-needed relief from the monotony of daily duties and help reduce mental and physical stress,” he said.
