Cops talk cybercrime prevention at Portmore government school
With an aim to make students aware about cybercrime, and ways to protect oneself from it, Himachal Team Against Cybercrime (HIMTAC) of the state police on Saturday organised a cybercrime awareness session at Girls Senior Secondary School, Portmore, in Shimla. The event witnessed the participation of around 600 students and faculty members.
The session focused on cyber frauds common in the state, online protection, and the dangers of cyberbullying and stalking, particularly relevant for girl school students.
During the session, students were made aware about cybercrimes, as well as measures to avoid being a victim to these. The team also addressed their queries and concerns.
“Through this initiative, the team aims to empower young individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the online world safely and responsibly,” said state CID (Cyber Crime) Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mohit Chawla.
Similar sessions were being held at various educational institutions in a bid to raise awareness among students about cybercrime, and not falling prey to it, the DIG added.
At the event, he appealed to residents to immediately report any instance of cybercrime by contacting the toll free cybercrime helpline number, 1930.
