Covid: Awareness drive at Kandwal barrier

To contain the spread of Covid-19, the local administration has shut ‘Shakipeeths’ in the district and launched an awareness drive at the Kandwal barrier on the Punjab and Himachal interstate border.

SDM, Nurpur, Surinder Thakur also visited the Kandwal barrier and directed police personnel to make people aware about the threat of Covid and advise them to return to their native places. The administration is also using the public announcement system on the barrier and deployed two police personnel to keep a close vigil on foreigners visiting Kangra district.

The SDM said the administration had closed Brij Raj Swami temple at Nurpur, Nagni mata temples at Kandwal and Nagni, Ratte Ghar temple near Jassur and Dikeshwar temple at Suliali. Langars (community kitchen) and religious gatherings would not be allowed as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, the administration also inspected the stock of masks and hand sanitisers at chemist stores at Jassur and Nurpur and fixed their retail prices.

The SDM said a hand sanitiser currently being sold by chemists at Rs 660 would now be available at Rs 310, whereas a mask being sold at Rs 80 per piece would now be available at Rs 20.

The SDM said these items had been covered under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) and action would be taken against hoarding and profiteering.
