Covid caseload rises by 171, five die in Himachal

The Covid surge continued with 171 positive cases being reported today, taking the total tally to 7,831. Five deaths (total fatalities 58) were also witnessed.

The highest number of 54 cases were reported in Kangra, 25 in Shimla, 20 in Hamirpur, 18 in Sirmaur, 13 in Una, 12 in Mandi, 10 in Chamba, eight in Solan, six in Bilaspur and five in Kullu.

Cong Kangra chief infected

As many as 54 persons, including Congress district president Ajay Mahajan and his wife, tested Covid positive in Kangra on Tuesday. The Deputy Commissioner’s office was sealed after Rakesh Prajapati tested positive on Monday. Indora MLA Rita Dhiman was also found infected yesterday. CMO, Kangra, GD Gupta said that a 51-year-old resident of Dhosh village in Shahpura with type 2 diabetes died this morning. However, his sample taken for the Covid test earlier came out positive.

3 cops test +ve in Sirmaur

Eighteen persons, including three policemen, were found infected with the virus in Sirmaur district. Ten cases were detected in Kolar, Malwa Cotton industrial unit and other places in Paonta Sahib.

13 cases in Una

Thirteen persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Una district. A 25-year-old woman journalist in Haroli, a 32-year-old woman health worker, two members of a Rakkar Colony family, and an employee of the Una Municipal Committee were among the infected persons.

Palampur villagers booked

The Palampur police on Tuesday booked residents of Lanjhyaee village, located 20 km from here, for organising a social gathering in which over 200 persons participated.

The SDM said a family of Lanjhyaee village had organised the function last week in which a couple from Chandigarh, who was already Covid positive, also participated. As a result, 17 villagers tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

He said that neither the organising family had taken permission from the administration nor informed the police about the function.
