The Covid surge continued as 653 fresh cases were reported in the state today, taking the tally to 66,890. Besides, nine persons died of the virus in the past 24 hours. Five deaths were reported in Kangra and one each in Solan, Una, Shimla and Sirmaur.

The highest number of 164 cases was reported in Kangra, followed by 143 in Solan, 62 in Hamirpur, 58 in Mandi, 53 in Shimla, 51 in Una, 42 in Bilaspur, 36 in Sirmaur, 25 in Kullu, 14 in Chamba, three in Lahaul and Spiti and two in Kinnaur. The total number of active cases rose to 4,158.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
