Cowdung, compost purchase scheme begins in Solan dist
In a move aimed at strengthening the economy of the farmers and those pursuing animal husbandry, the Agriculture Department has kick-started the purchase of cowdung and compost in Solan district.
The activity which has begun across the state will make cowdung and compost available to the farmers at reasonable rates informed Dev Raj Kashyap, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Solan.
“To begin with the department has started the purchase of cowdung and compost from Nalagarh in Solan district. So far, 45 quintals of cowdung and compost have been purchased from the agrarian community in Manjholi of Nalagarh at the rate of Rs 3 per kg,”informed Kashyap.
The scheme aimed at enhancing the income of farmers will reduce the use of chemical-free vegetables and fruits which will also have a positive effect on the health of the people.
The use of chemical pesticides by the farmers on various crops are destroying the fertility of the soil besides hitting the air circulation and quality of the land. This adversely hits the health of the people. While the use of cow dung manure on a large scale will increase the fertility of the land, people will also organically grown agricultural products. He said upon optimum implementation of the scheme, the agricultural economy will be strengthened and the ambitious natural farming campaign of the state government will also gain momentum.
The Deputy Director said to avail the benefits of the compost purchase scheme, farmers can contact the block level agriculture officers of the Agriculture Department.
