In a decisive move to curb drunk driving during the festive season, the Himachal Pradesh Police have launched an intensive state-wide campaign aimed at ensuring safer roads. Under the new directive, all Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been instructed to establish checkpoints on highways, in busy city areas and near major markets. These checkpoints will operate from 6 pm to 6 am, equipped with alco-sensors and other modern devices to test suspected drivers for alcohol consumption.

Officials revealed that the state has witnessed a sharp increase in road accidents during the festive season, largely due to drunk driving. This campaign is designed not only as a law enforcement measure but also as a public safety and awareness drive.

Emphasising personal responsibility, the police have urged citizens to avoid drinking and driving, reminding them that recklessness endangers not only their own lives but also those of passengers and pedestrians.
