Critically hurt man airlifted from Pangi
A critically injured man from Pangi Valley was airlifted to Manali on Sunday after heavy snowfall blocked road access to the region. Sant Ram, a resident of Dhanala village, had slipped on ice on February 26 and sustained serious injuries.
Upon receiving the distress call, villagers informed Pangi Resident Commissioner Raman Gharsangi, urgently requesting transportation to Civil Hospital, Killar. Despite efforts by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to clear the roads, continuous snowfall made it impossible to shift the patient to the nearest medical facility.
Faced with the worsening weather conditions, the Pangi administration reached out to the Tribal Development Department and the Chief Minister’s Office for assistance. As the weather cleared, the government arranged a helicopter to airlift Sant Ram from the Sach Helipad to Manali for advanced treatment.
In a coordinated effort, local residents and relatives carried Sant Ram on foot to the Sach Helipad, from where he was transported by vehicle. The quick action was made possible with support from the Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi, medical staff, helicopter crew and the villagers.
