CSIR technical institute hosts roadshow on e-tractor, e-tiller
The CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), Palampur, hosted a roadshow and live demonstration of the e-tractor and e-tiller, developed by CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CMERI), Durgapur. The event aimed to promote sustainable agricultural mechanisation and create awareness among farmers in Himachal Pradesh about the latest advancements in farm technology.
Dr Naveen Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, inaugurated the roadshow. He lauded CSIR’s efforts in integrating farm mechanisation with environmental conservation, emphasising the importance of innovations suited to Himachal Pradesh’s small landholdings.
Dr Kuldeep Singh Dhiman, Deputy Director of Agriculture, highlighted the role of CSIR labs in enhancing farmers’ income through technological and engineering advancements. He noted that such innovations are crucial for modern agriculture and informed farmers about government subsidies available for these technologies.
CSIR-CMERI Director, Dr Naresh Chandra Murmu, elaborated on the institute’s research initiatives and the key features of the newly developed e-tractor and e-tiller. He emphasised that these machines are user-friendly and can be easily operated by women. He also thanked CSIR-IHBT for organising the event.
Earlier, Dr Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director of CSIR-IHBT Palampur, welcomed the guests and commended CSIR-CMERI for developing eco-friendly mechanisation solutions. He also highlighted CSIR-IHBT’s contributions to farmers’ welfare, particularly through aroma and floriculture missions that are transforming rural livelihoods.
More than 150 farmers attended the event.
