Nurpur: Jawali SDM Salim Azam has undertaken a novel initiative to keep tabs on those home-quarantined. After his official duty, he travels 15 to 20 km on his bicycle everyday to check any violation by home-quarantined people in rural areas of Jawali subdivision. On his way, he also distributes masks to those without it with a warning that strict action will be taken if anyone was seen venturing out without wearing mask. The SDM has also been sensitising people about the threat of Covid-19. He said if anyone under home quarantine was found violating the rules, action would be taken. OC
Govt comes to aid of 2-yr-old patient
Shimla: Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said the government has decided to bear all expenses on the treatment of a two-year-old Covid-positive girl from Chamba, who also has a hole in her heart. He said the girl is suffering from heart disease and has a hole in her heart that needs a major heart surgery. He said keeping in view the economic condition of her family, the state government had decided to bear all expenses on the treatment of her heart ailment within or outside the state. TNS
Residents oppose DDU hospital as Covid centre
Shimla: The state government’s decision to declare Deen Dayal Upadhayay Zonal Hospital in the heart of the city as a specialised Covid-19 centre has not gone down well with residents and traders. They have urged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to review the decision. In a letter to the Chief Minister submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, they said the hospital was in close proximity with the residential area and market and posed a threat to a large number of people. Moreover, it would also affect the business in the vicinity of the hospital.
4 held for theft in Pangi
Dalhousie: The police have arrested four persons for allegedly stealing valuables, including ornaments, amounting to Rs 85,000 in the Pangi tribal area of Chamba district recently. In an official communiqué today, Chamba SP Dr Monika Bhutunguru said the police had recovered all valuables along with ornaments stolen by these persons from a house. The accused, including a minor, were locals, the SP added. A case under Sections 457, 380 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against four persons at Pangi police station, the SP said; adding that further investigation was on. OC
Delay in Chamba road repair resented
Chamba: The District Sanjha Sangharsh Morcha has resented an inordinate delay in the repair of a stretch on the Chamba-Bharmour road. The morcha said the repair work could have been easily undertaken as the state government had given its approval to various construction works to generate employment for labourers. Morcha convener PC Oberoi said,” The road is full of potholes and it is difficult to ply vehicles, causing inconvenience not only to drivers, but also to pedestrians.” OC
Traffic volunteers help 148 senior citizens
Chamba: Traffic volunteers have helped 148 senior citizens by taking them to their destinations on motorcycles during curfew relaxation hours in the past four days, said SP Monika Bhutunguru. It was a new initiative taken by the police for the senior citizens. Six traffic volunteers have been appointed for the cause. “Though the elderly are not allowed to walk around in the market or anywhere, if it is urgent for them to go to a hospital or a bank, they are being helped to reach their destinations on motorcycles,” the SP added. 10,471 MGNREGA workers employed in Shimla
Shimla: As many as 10,471 workers have been employed under the MGNREGA scheme in Shimla district. The Rural Development Department through the DRDA in Shimla district will transfer Rs 20,73,253 to the labourers’ bank accounts after the completion of the works. A total of 1,985 works are being undertaken. The state government has raised the wages of MGNREGA labourers from Rs 185 per day to Rs 198 per day to boost their morale. TNS
State gets Rs859 cr for ‘shiksha yojana’
Shimla: The Union Human Resource Ministry has sanctioned Rs 859 crore to the hill state for the annual Samgra Shiksha Yojana (2020-21). Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said additional teachers would be deployed in 3,850 primary schools to increase pre-primary classes. The honorarium to these teachers would be funded by the Centre. Approval had also been given for providing information and communication technology facility in 218 new high and senior secondary schools under digital Initiative.TNS
