Unprecedented heavy rains have shattered the life of Prakash Chand, a daily wage laborer from Dhawala Panchayat in Dehra subdivision of Kangra district. His modest two-room kutcha house could not withstand the relentless downpour. The foundation weakened, walls gave way and the shelter collapsed into rubble. Miraculously, Prakash and his family managed to escape unhurt.
The destruction, however, left the family devastated. Their food grains, bedding, and meager belongings now lie buried under debris. For Prakash, who is also a heart patient, the loss is unbearable. Fighting tears, he shared, “Earlier it was difficult to manage two meals a day, now even the roof is gone. I don’t know where to take my family.”
Moved by the tragedy, gram panchayat Pradhan Anjana Devi rushed to the spot, offering comfort and assuring full support. Officials from the Revenue Department have also assessed the damage and promised immediate relief as per government norms.
Currently, Prakash and his family are taking temporary shelter at his brother’s home. However, the arrangement comes with a time limit of two months, after which he must find an alternative. His struggle mirrors that of countless families in Dehra subdivision this monsoon, battling despair and displacement amid nature’s fury.
