Dalhousie residents pay homage to war heroes

Dalhousie, July 26

Residents of the town paid homage to the heroes of Kargil War during a programme held at Smriti Sthal, Tagore Chowk, in Dalhousie cantonment today. The event was orgsanised by a local NGO ‘Himotkarsh’.

Colonel Vijay Ahlawat, officiating Commander of the 323 Mountain Brigade, was the chief gues.

He made special reference to the supreme sacrifices of Captain Vijay Batra of Palampur and Anmol Kalia of Una. He said the nation would always be indebted to their sacrifice. Air Commodore Ashok Mahajan (retd) gave a brief description of operations of the infantry, Air Force and Navy in the war.

Satpal Sharma, president of the NGO, thanked for the cooperation tendered by the Army, citizens and the local schools of the area. Earlier, a big rally was also organised.

Country indebted to martyrs: Dhumal

Hamirpur: The country will remain indebted to the martyrs of the Kargil War, said Prem Kumar Dhumal, a former Chief Minister, while addressing the Vijay Diwas function organised at Tauni Devi, near here. He said he had seen the Kargil War closely, as he visited the borders with then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. — OC
