Darcha-Shinku La road blocked after cloudburst

The Darcha-Shinku La road in Lahaul and Spiti district was closed to traffic following a cloudburst today. Both old and new bridges, located about 16 km from Darcha, were severely damaged, prompting the local authorities to immediately prohibit vehicular movement on this crucial road that connects the Lahaul valley with the Zanskar valley of Ladakh.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is undertaking repair work on the road. According to police sources, the maintenance work is expected to take two or three days to complete and till then the road will remain closed.
Meanwhile, the Lahaul and Spiti district authorities have issued an advisory to travellers to avoid travelling the Darcha-Shinku La road and use alternative routes to prevent disruption of their travel plans. They have also been asked to stay informed about the latest updates from the local authorities regarding the road condition.
