DAV state-level sports meet begins with over 1K students participating

The Himachal Pradesh DAV state-level inter-school sports meet commenced at Rehan, in the Fatehpur Assembly constituency of Kangra district, on Saturday. The three-day event, featuring kabaddi and volleyball, is being hosted by DAV Senior Secondary Public School, Rehan. Around 1,000 students from 44 DAV public schools across the state are participating in the event.

Kangra MP Rajiv Bhardwaj inaugurated the meet. Presiding over the opening ceremony, Bhardwaj lauded the organisers for hosting the state-level sports competition. He encouraged students to take a keen interest in sports alongside their studies, highlighting that sports not only channelize energy in the right way but also create opportunities for career development.

He emphasised the crucial role of youth in nation-building, stating that their energy, creativity and innovative spirit are essential for the country’s progress and strength. Bhardwaj also announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh for the development of sports infrastructure at DAV School, Rehan.

The formal inauguration featured an impressive march past, torch lighting and a pledge-taking ceremony. The meet is being organised under the supervision of state sports coordinator Kuldeep Singh Guleria and under the leadership of Dr Rashmi Jamwal, Principal of the host DAV school. Principals from various DAV institutions, government school sports teachers and referees were also present on the occasion.

The programme began with a warm welcome, during which Principal Jamwal greeted the chief guest with a bouquet, traditional Chamba thaal, cap and shawl. This was followed by a cultural programme, featuring a welcome song, Ganesh Vandana and Nati, presented by students of the host school.

Students participating in the event have showcased commendable skill, teamwork and sportsmanship in kabaddi and volleyball matches across under-14, under-17 and under-19 categories for both boys and girls.
