Solan Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma emphasized that public participation is essential for maintaining cleanliness, which is the foundation of a prosperous city. He was speaking at a programme organised by the Solan Municipal Corporation under the Clean City-Prosperous City Programme.

He stressed the importance of scientific waste management for cleanliness and environmental protection, stating that the initiative would focus on waste classification and separation at the source. To raise awareness, various information, education and communication activities will be conducted at different levels.

Sharma also highlighted the launch of a citizen service portal to enhance public convenience. Initially, the portal will offer nine essential services, including trade licenses, property tax management, grievance redressal, and community place bookings. In the future, 45 services will be available on this platform.

“The government is committed to innovation, making processes simpler for residents. CCTV monitoring will also be introduced to keep Solan clean,” he added.

Solan Municipal Corporation Mayor Usha Sharma noted that the civic body has developed a comprehensive system for waste collection and disposal. Modern facilities are being established for the scientific disposal of waste, while parking, parks, and other urban infrastructure are being expanded.

Municipal Commissioner Ekta Kapata provided further details about the programme, emphasizing its focus on sustainable urban cleanliness. As part of the event, a Swachhata Pledge was administered, reaffirming citizens’ commitment to cleanliness. A street play highlighting the importance of hygiene and waste management was also performed. The programme witnessed participation from Municipal Corporation councillors and other stakeholders, reinforcing the collective effort needed to make Solan a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous city.
