To prevent any kind untoward incident in the district, Shimla DC Anupam Kashyap has made the registration of migrant workers, street vendors and other outside workers living temporarily in different areas of the district mandatory with the police.
Under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Service Code (BNSS), entrepreneurs, businessmen, contractors, farmers and others who employ migrant workers have been directed to register their workers with the nearest police station by providing their full details, including photographs.
Orders have also been issued for migrant workers, street vendors and other outsiders working in other sectors to register themselves with the nearest police station. Local residents have also been instructed to ensure the identification and registration of tenants before renting their houses to outsiders.
As per the orders, antecedents of such migrant workers must also be verified. No migrant worker will be able to obtain employment in the district without registering with the police station within their jurisdiction.
The DC said outside workers, their employers and landlords who violate these orders could face action under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). The orders will remain in effect until November 30.
