Debate held at Auckland House

Inter-house English debates was held at Auckland House School for Boys on Friday. The judges for the day were Pallavi Mehta, Rajni Harrison and Nayab Masud, faculty members; Auckland House School, Shimla. The boys from the four Houses participated enthusiastically in the same. The first topic for the debate was- “Politics should be kept out of school” which was between French and Lefroy House and the motion was lost. The second topic for the debate was ‘Homework should be Banned”, which was between Matthew and Durrant House and again the motion was lost. The Durrant House bagged the first place, Matthew House second while French House was third. Ishan Malhotra of Durrant was adjudged the best speaker. The judges praised the students for the efforts put in by them. The event came to an end with National Anthem.

MoU on film-making courses

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed between Bollywood’s film personalities Aditya Pancholi and Javed Khan’s Stardom Film, television and music academy and AP Goyal Shimla University for imparting education and training on film-making, TV production and music at the APG Shimla University. These certificate courses, including diploma and undergraduate level courses, will be in film-making, television management, music, theatre from the July academic session. The initiative will provide a platform to youths in their own territory to try their hands in film-making, acting, television production, theatre and music to get jobs, said Vice Chancellor of the university Dr Ramesh Kumar Choudhary.

HPU VC calls meeting of Heads

HPU Vice chancellor Prof Sikander Kumar on Friday called upon the head of the teaching departments to ask them to adhere to norms for smooth conduct of regular classes and directed the chairman to prepare a list of funds required throughout the year for conducting activities. He also sought suggestions from the teachers on the ongoing projects. He said that the faculty is required to publish three Research Papers. The departmental council, board of studies must meet regularly and maintain the proceedings of the same, he added.

Nati, bhangra performed

A cultural function was organised by the commerce department of Government College, Sanjauli. Principal of the college Dr CB Mehta was the chief guest on the occasion. The event started with a classical performance, followed by bhangra, nati performances. A skit on financial awareness was also performed to make students aware of the financial scenario. A presentation on coronavirus awareness was also given.

Laptops given to students

As many as 116 students of Minerva Senior Secondary School, Ghumarwin in Bilaspur received laptops for their meritorious performance in Class X and XII (science) board examinations. All these students received laptops under government’s Srinivasa Ramanujan Digital Scholarship Scheme. These recipients are students of the 2017-18 academic session. Out of these, 76 students were of Class XII (science stream) and the remaining were of Class X. The principal and staff of the school congratulated these students and wished them a bright future.
