Demand to relax experience norm for teaching posts in Himachal

Hundreds of computer science degree holders and IT techies, who have lost jobs amid the pandemic, have urged Education Minister Govind Thakur to do away with the condition of a five-year experience for recruitment as PGT (informatics practices) in schools.

There are a few private schools in the state and it is impossible for all job seekers to gain experience to become eligible for the post. — Aspirants for the posts of PGT (informatics practices)

The previous Congress government had in 2017 advertised 1,191 posts of PGT (IP). However, the appointments could not be made as the matter had been pending in the State Administrative Tribunal (since abolished) and the High Court.

The jobless youths rued that the government did not made any efforts to expedite the matter.

They said there was no such condition when 767 posts were filled in 2012. However, this condition was introduced in 2017, probably to make backdoor entries, they alleged.

The agitated youths said as per the government’s policy, recruitment to class III and class IV posts were made through a written test and additional 2.5 marks were given for experience. As such, imposing the condition of a five-year experience in the advertisement was not justified.

They said there were a few private schools in the state and it was impossible for all job seekers to gain experience to become eligible for the post.

Most aspirants belong to poor families and hadpursued degrees by raising loans.
