Deputy CM announces Rs 200 crore for drinking water projects in Kullu
Says Rs 158 crore allocated for disaster mitigation efforts
The week-long International Kullu Dasehra Festival culminated with a vibrant and heartfelt closing ceremony at the Atal Sadan here on Wednesday. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, who was the chief guest of the function, announced a 10 per cent increase in the honorarium of traditional baja-bajantaris (folk musicians), who contribute to the festivities every year.
Agnihotri said that the state government would invest Rs 200 crore to improve drinking water facilities in Kullu district so that residents have access to clean and uninterrupted water supply. He added that Rs 158 crore had already been allocated for disaster mitigation efforts.
He emphasised the success of flood-protection measures along the Beas, which had significantly minimised damage during natural calamities. He gave the details of completed projects, including of Rs 8.73 crore at Raison, of Rs 8.65 crore along the Beas right bank in Manali, of Rs 8.34 crore near Vriddha Ashram, of Rs 3 crore at the Kullu Rafting Centre and of a Rs 4.35 crore project near the Gaushala at Lanka Bekar. He assured people that the remaining Rs 58 crore earmarked for flood protection work would be utilised for similar projects in the district.
The Deputy Chief Minister congratulated Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur, who is also the chairman of the Festival Committee; Deputy Commissioner Torul S Raveesh and their team for organising grand celebrations. “The Kullu Dasehra is a living testament to Himachal Pradesh’s divine culture, faith, unity and folk heritage,” he said. “It not only reflects our traditions but also elevates the state’s identity on the global stage,” he added.
Agnihotri said that the government was committed to preserving the deity culture while promoting tourism and employment for locals. He applauded the gesture of dedicating the festival to rain disaster victims. “The decision to celebrate Dasehra with simplicity and compassion for those affected by recent calamities is truly commendable,” he added.
Agnihotri also praised local artistes for their contribution and the rich cultural tapestry showcased throughout the event. Later, he visited exhibitions set up by various departments showcasing their developmental initiatives at the Dhalpur ground.
Earlier, the Kullu MLA said that the Dasehra this year was dedicated to supporting families impacted by natural disasters. The proceeds of the festival would be directed towards relief efforts. Meanwhile, Bhuttico Weavers Society officials presented a Rs cheque for 3 lakh towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
