Local MLA Satpal Singh Satti today alleged that Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri’s continued absence from his office in Shimla pointed towards a major rift within the state government.

Satti, while addressing mediapersons here, said that Agnihotri should shun the post of Deputy Chief Minister if the Congress and the government were not giving him due respect and authority. He added that anguish and mistrust were clearly evident not only among Cabinet ministers but also among Congress MLAs and second line party leaders and workers at the Assembly segment level. He claimed that no development was taking place and all public works had been stalled.

The MLA alleged that the state Education Department was in a state of confusion and disarray. He added that teachers were being transferred to far-flung areas in the name of rationalisation in various educational institutions. He pointed out that in the past 20 days in Una district alone, male teachers had been transferred to tribal areas, including Bara Bhangal and Dodra Kwar, while women teachers, who were on the verge of retirement, had been posted to schools in remote areas.

Satti said that teachers and the ministerial staff in the Education Department were in a fix as to whether their institutions would remain functional or would be closed due to less student attendance and whether they would be shunted to other locations.
