DGP allocates duties for international Kullu Dasehra festival

DGP Ashok Tewari today appointed Rahul Nath, DIG, Central Range, as the overall in-charge of the Kullu Dasehra festival to ensure the safety and security of visitors and those who would participate in the event. The DIG would exercise direct supervision over all aspects of law and order, security, traffic and protocol duties.

Also, Karthikeyan Gokulachandran, SP, Kullu, was given the responsibility of ensuring proper law and order arrangements, effective traffic management and protocol duties in connection with the festival. Similarly, Padam Chand, Commandant, 3rd IRBn, Pandoh in Mandi, would be the in-charge of security and deployment at the festival venue and adjoining areas. Padam has served as SP, Kullu, for two years and is well-acquainted with the security dynamics of the Dasehra festival. He would utilise his prior experience in planning and executing security arrangements.

As per the DGP’s direction, the SP, Kullu, and the Commandant, 3rd IRBn, would coordinate with each other and function under the close supervision of the DIG, Central Range, Mandi. Further, DIG Rahul Nath would keep the DGP apprised of the situation through the ADGP (Law and Order) by briefing and sending daily reports regarding security, law and order, and other festival-related arrangements.

“The Kullu Dasehra is a significant event celebrated in the state. It showcases the rich cultural heritage of the region, with over 200 deities participating in the grand festivities. The festival has a significant impact on the local economy, as it attracts thousands of visitors and promotes local handicrafts and artisans. The festival has gained international recognition, making it a prominent tourist destination and showcasing India’s rich cultural diversity,” the DGP said.

“The Himachal Pradesh Police have made meticulous arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. The festival requires stringent security and traffic management measures to maintain peace and order,” he added.
