Himachal Pradesh Director-General of Police (DGP) Ashok Tewari has directed that all complaints received through the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) 112 be addressed promptly and within a defined timeframe. The DGP has instructed the police units to maintain strong field visibility through regular patrolling and increased public interaction.

These directions have been issued to all Superintendents of Police (SPs) in the state with strict orders for compliance. The SPs will be held fully accountable if district policing is found wanting.

The DGP said all police officers and their teams have been instructed to demonstrate sensitivity towards the public. “Active leadership in the field is now a priority for every district police unit,” he added. He said it is mandatory for police personnel to treat every citizen with respect and professionalism.

Emphasising the importance of strong and effective policing, Tewari said district policing is the greatest strength of the force. “It is the responsibility of every SP, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and Station House Officer (SHO) to ensure visible, swift, accountable and respectful policing on the ground. District policing forms the foundation of Himachal Police and keeping it strong is the direct responsibility of SPs, SDPOs and SHOs,” he said.

The DGP also warned police officers that any laxity in district policing would not be tolerated, adding that this is not a routine directive but a wake-up call for all state police personnel.
