Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani has asked the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to urgently repair the Hamirpur-Ghumarwin stretch of the national highway, citing its deteriorated condition with potholes and cracks. Speaking at Ghumarwin, he said delayed annual maintenance had turned the road accident-prone, causing vehicle breakdowns and traffic hazards.
The minister also instructed the Public Works Department to restore rain-damaged link roads in the constituency to ensure uninterrupted village connectivity, especially during emergencies. Jal Shakti and Electricity Board officials were asked to maintain continuous drinking water and power supply and remain alert for any crisis.
Highlighting the state government’s commitment to welfare, Dharmani noted that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has enhanced disaster relief packages — raising compensation for fully damaged houses from Rs 1.30 lakh to Rs 7 lakh, partially damaged houses from Rs 12,500 to Rs 1 lakh and shops/dhabas from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
Earlier, the minister heard public grievances at the PWD Rest House in Ghumarwin and directed revenue officials to ensure all monsoon damage reports are prepared promptly so that no affected person is left without assistance.
