Direct domestic gas to reach Shimla homes
Residents of Shimla will soon have access to pipeline cooking gas connections as a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) distribution plant is set to be established in the town. The project is being undertaken by Indian Oil Adani Gas Private Limited, a joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Adani Total Gas Limited (ATGL).
This project has been in the works for a long time, but the Municipal Corporation of Shimla faced challenges in finding suitable land for the establishment of the plant due to the hilly terrain. However, the civic body had previously shortlisted three to four potential sites. Among these, land at Darni ka Bagicha in Shimla has been identified and shortlisted for the PNG distribution plant.
During the presentation of the Budget for the financial year 2025-26, Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surender Chauhan proposed provisions for establishing the PNG distribution plant at Darni ka Bagicha, and the work is set to begin soon.
Mayor Surender Chauhan mentioned that once the plant is operational, the residents of Shimla will receive domestic gas directly to their homes, eliminating the need for LPG cylinders. He added that residents will receive monthly bills for using the service, with charges expected to range from Rs 500 to Rs 600.
