Tourists were safely rescued during a mock drill conducted on Thursday at the Jakhu ropeway, an exercise organised by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to assess preparedness for emergency. As part of the drill, individuals stranded in a ropeway trolley nearly 100m above the ground were brought down using ropes in a controlled rescue operation. Personnel from the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and Home Guards participated in the exercise.

Additional District Magistrate (Protocol) Jyoti Rana said the DDMA routinely carries out such exercises at the Jakhu ropeway. “The mock drill was conducted to practise the safe rescue of people, in the event they get trapped in the ropeway. Such exercises are crucial for effectively dealing with any emergency,” she said.
