A disaster management mock drill is set to be organised in Kangra district on April 4.

Speaking about the drill, ADM Harish Gajju said guidelines had been issued to all the officials concerned — Subdivisional Officers, Deputy Director of Education (Higher Education and Elementary Education) — for organising the mock drill.

Due to the earthquake in Kangra on April 4, 1905, 20,000 people had lost their lives. More than one lakh buildings were also damaged. — Harish Gajju, ADM

The ADM said, “Due to the earthquake in Kangra on April 4, 1905, 20,000 people had lost their lives. More than one lakh buildings were also damaged.”

Special emphasis is being given to disaster management to deal with such situations, so that the losses can be reduced and people can be better equipped to deal with disasters, the ADM said.

According to Gajju, disaster plans had been prepared at the district level and the subdivision level. Schools and hospitals had been instructed to prepare disaster plans as well, he added.

He said mock drills were being organised regularly to test the efficacy of the disaster management plans so as to ensure that the concerned officials deal with the situation effectively.
