The district-level Republic Day celebration will be held at the historic Chaugan Ground in Nahan on January 26, as announced by Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Khimta during a meeting on preparations for the event.
Addressing the gathering, Khimta said the Republic Day celebration will be organised with great enthusiasm, similar to previous years. The key highlights of the event will include an impressive parade and cultural performances.
The celebration will commence at 11 am with the hoisting of the national flag by the chief guest. Prior to this, the chief guest will pay homage to freedom fighters at the Shaheed Smarak near the Deputy Commissioner’s office. After the flag hoisting, the chief guest will inspect the parade and take the salute during the march-past, which will feature contingents from the police, home guards, NCC, scouts and guides, and students from various schools.
Following the march-past, the chief guest will deliver a message to the audience. In addition, officers and employees who have delivered exceptional service in various departments will be honoured during the ceremony.
Deputy Commissioner Khimta instructed the Municipal Council to ensure the cleanliness and necessary maintenance of the Shaheed Smarak and Chaugan Ground. Departments such as electricity, Jal Shakti, education and public works have been directed to complete their respective tasks on time to ensure the successful execution of the event.
The meeting also witnessed the presence of Assistant Commissioner Vivek Sharma, who presented a detailed agenda, along with Additional District Magistrate LR Verma, SDM Nahan Rajeev Sankhyan and officers from various departments.
