Doctor held from Moga for supplying chitta to peddlers

The Kangra police have achieved a major breakthrough in busting drug peddling racket in the district. The drug peddling racket had its roots in Moga district of Punjab. The racket was being run by a young MBBS doctor, Asish Kapoor, running his private practice in Punjab. He was allegedly supplying synthetic drug ‘chitta’ to peddlers in Himachal.

The doctor was from Baijnath area of Kangra but was practising in Moga area of Punjab. He is suspected to be a peddler and an addict of chitta.

SSP Kangra, Shallini Agnihotri said that a police team from Baijnath police station in Kangra district today arrested Ashish Kapoor, an MBBS doctor doing private practice in Moga district of Punjab, for supplying chitta (heroin) in Himachal. The doctor (23) completed his MBBS degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Chamba in the year 2024. A case under section 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him for supplying drugs to peddlers.

ASP Kangra, Hitesh Lakhanpal said that Baijnath police reached the doctor of Moga after it arrested a Nepali citizen on February 14 with 6 gram of chitta.

When he was interrogated, it was revealed that he was given this narcotic substance by a rickshaw driver from Moga district of Punjab. After this, a team of Baijnath police was sent to Moga, where the rickshaw driver was also arrested.

When the police investigated the matter further, it emerged that the rickshaw driver used to supply chitta to doctor also who further used to sell it peddlers of Himachal. Baijnath police has now arrested all three accused.

The ASP said that the entire network of drug peddlers is being investigated. The police were trying to find out who else were associated with this gang and from where this drug was supplied in Himachal.

It was a rare case in which the Himachal police has reached main suppliers of ‘chitta’ to peddlers operating in Punjab.
