The Resident Doctors Association (RDA), IGMC, Shimla, today condemned the murder of a female resident doctor at Government Medical College, Kolkata, and demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators.
While lodging their protest over the heinous crime, the doctors said the incident underscored the urgent need for stringent measures to ensure the safety and security of medical professionals. “This tragic incident highlights the critical shortcomings in the security systems of our medical institutions nationwide. It is a sobering reminder of the urgent need for systemic reforms to create a supportive and humane work environment,” said RDA, IGMC, demanding swift, impartial and transparent investigation into the incident.
The RDA further urged the government to expedite the implementation of appropriate legislation to safeguard the lives and well-being of healthcare professionals. “We will escalate this protest to seek justice in the future if the demands are not fulfilled,” said Dr Hari Mohan Sharma, RDA president.
