Doppler weather radar stations to be set up in Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti
As part of preparedness to tackle natural disasters, doppler weather radar stations will be established in Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts. A meeting of the State Executive Committee of the Disaster Management Authority was held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena. He directed the Deputy Commissioners of Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur to identify suitable locations for these doppler weather radar stations. It was decided to extend HAM radio training to firefighters and SDRF personnel.
A detailed discussion on the use of HAM radio for communication during disasters was held at the meeting. It was pointed out that HAM radio could facilitate the establishment of local communication networks during emergency situations.
The meeting was told that as of now, 88 personnel had undergone HAM radio training in the state. After training, they had to appear in an examination so that their proficiency could be assessed. Besides, 12 polytechnic institutions were likely to be identified and designated as housing training centres for disaster management purposes.
Additional Chief Secretaries Kamlesh Kumar Pant and Onkar Chand Sharma, Director-cum-Special Secretary (Disaster Management) DC Rana, Director (Rural Development and Panchayati Raj) Raghav Sharma attended the meeting. Senior officers of various departments and the Deputy Commissioners of all districts joined the meeting virtually.
