The police have arrested a habitual drug smuggler near DAV School in Muqam Raihan in Nurpur sub-division of the Kangra district, the SP Ashok Rattan confirmed here today.
He said that a Hyundai i20 car bearing registration number HP-88-7916 driven by Ravi Kumar, son of Kishore Kumar, a resident of Jhanjhwa village, Fatehpur tehsil, in Kangra district, was intercepted. Search by policemen led to recovery of 64.32 grams of heroin (locally known as chitta) from his possession.
The accused was immediately taken into custody and an FIR under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered against him at the Raihan police station.
During the investigation, it has come to light that Ravi Kumar was a habitual offender and has been involved in drug trafficking earlier as well. A criminal case of drugs under Sections 21 and 25 of the NDPS Act was registered against him at Police Station, Nurpur, in 2024 and 109.52 grams of heroin was recovered from him.
Further, investigations are in progress.
