Mandi, July 16
The police have arrested a man for allegedly killing his younger brother following an argument at Mairamseet village under Balh police station in Mandi district last night. They have registered a case of murder under Section 103 of the BNS.
According to the police, Lekh Ram (49), a resident of Mairamseet in Balh tehsil, along with his 19-year-old son was at his grocery and vegetable shop yesterday. Around 7.30 pm, Lekh Ram’s elder brother, Jagdish Kumar (53), arrived at the shop in an inebriated condition and began arguing and quarreling with him. The altercation escalated and Jagdish threw benches, tables and a weighing scale from the shop on the road. When Lekh Ram protested, Jagdish assaulted him and even struck him with a stone kept in an empty vegetable crate at the shop.
“A bystander, Bhisham Dev, tried to save Lekh Ram but Jagdish Kumar also attacked him with a stone on the head. Injured Lekh Ram was rushed to the Ner Chowk medical college and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” the police said.
Mandi SP Sakshi Verma said that the police arrested Jagdish and presented him in court, which remanded him police custody for three days until July 18. A team of the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory inspected the place of the incident and an investigation in the case was underway.
