An e-waste collection and awareness drive was successfully conducted across Dharamsala and surrounding areas on the occasion of International e-Waste Day 2025. The event was organised by the Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (HPPCB), Regional Office Dharamsala, in collaboration with the Rotary Club Dharamsala-McLeodganj, Hotel and Restaurant Association Dharamsala, Smart City Dharamsala and Himalyan Cyber Security System.
Aligned with this year’s global theme focusing on Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) — vital components in electronics — the drive aimed to highlight the importance of recycling to conserve these resources and reduce environmental harm.
Collection points were set up in Dharamsala, McLeodganj, Bhagsu Nag, Dharamkot, Naddi and Satovari, where residents deposited discarded electronics such as mobile phones, laptops and chargers. Volunteers from the Rotary Club assisted with awareness and logistics at each location.
Varun Gupta, Regional Officer, HPPCB, said the initiative aimed to promote responsible e-waste disposal and thanked all partner organisations for their support. “Public response was very encouraging, reflecting increased awareness and commitment to sustainable practices,” he added.
Gupta also announced plans for similar drives in other parts of the district and invited local institutions to join hands with the Pollution Control Board in building a cleaner, greener Himachal Pradesh.
