Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri today laid the foundation stone of a community complex in Gondpur Jaichand village of Haroli Assembly segment on which a sum of Rs 1.14 crore will be spent. The first instalment of Rs 35 lakh has already been released to the implementing agency.

Speaking on the occasion, Agnihotri said the building would be used for conducting panchayat-level meetings and cultural, social and religious events.

He said the government is working to strengthen Panchayati Raj Institutions besides creating sources of income for panchayats and boosting the rural economy.

The Deputy CM later inspected the ongoing beautification work of the village pond on which a sum of Rs 1 crore is being spent on creating peripheral walking tracks, installing solar lighting and putting up benches.

He said traditional water bodies are being rejuvenated in Haroli segment to conserve water, help in increasing the green cover and boost local flora and fauna.

Agnihotri, who also holds charge of the Transport Department, said 1,000 old buses in the HRTC fleet are being replaced, adding that 350 electric and 250 new diesel buses are being procured. He said on routes with less number of passenger, the department would launch tempo traveller buses for the benefit of commuters.

The Deputy CM also inspected the ongoing works at the Gondpur cremation grounds on which a sum of Rs 75 lakh is being spent. Haroli SDM Vishal Sharma, panchayat pradhan Anoop Agnihotri and zila parishad member Naresh Kumari were also present besides others.
