ECI team inspects remote polling stations in Kangra

A 10-member team of the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by Section Officer Abhishek Agrahari, visited several remote polling stations in Kangra district on Saturday to assess election preparedness in geographically challenging areas.

The team conducted inspections in Sukhu Ghrat, Manoh, Bodh Sarana and other villages falling under the Shahpur Assembly constituency. These polling stations have been designated by the State Election Department as particularly difficult due to terrain and accessibility issues.

During the visit, the ECI team interacted with booth-level officers (BLOs) and reviewed administrative and logistical challenges faced in these remote regions. The team also engaged with local residents to gather feedback and understand grassroots-level concerns related to the electoral process.

“The objective of this inspection is to strengthen the electoral process by making it more transparent, inclusive and efficient,” said team leader Abhishek Agrahari. “Along with evaluating the conduct of elections, we are also reviewing accessibility, availability of basic infrastructure and the adequacy of resources at polling stations.”

Tehsildar of Shahpur subdivision, Dikshant Thakur, was also present during the inspection. He briefed the ECI team on citizen grievances and highlighted key infrastructural needs in the area.

The team reviewed the ongoing work related to additions, deletions and corrections in the electoral rolls. BLOs were directed to ensure the timely inclusion of eligible voters and removal of ineligible names from the rolls.

Earlier, a training session was held for BLOs, where their roles and responsibilities were discussed in detail. The ECI team listened to their issues and assured them of full support from the Commission. BLOs were lauded as the “backbone of the electoral process” and their contributions were appreciated.

Agrahari reiterated the ECI’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible citizen is given an equal opportunity to participate in the democratic process. “This visit is part of the commission’s broader initiative to ensure accessible, fair and inclusive elections across the country,” he added.
