The minister said besides offering various schemes for the upliftment of women, 50 per cent seats have been reserved for women in the Panchayati Raj institutions to ensure their participation by contesting elections. “During these two years, an amount of about Rs 60 lakh has been sanctioned for 39 Mahila Mandals. Women play an important role in politics, and along with that, they are also doing self-employment work through self-help groups,” he said.

Congratulating the women, he said the government was encouraging Mahila Mandals and self-help groups to sell local dishes and products through Him Era Yojana so that their economy can be strengthened.

He said the state government was working to take forward the development works started by former Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh. Talking about the development of the area, he said during the last two years, an amount of about Rs 300 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of various development works in Shimla Rural Assembly constituency
