With an aim to inspire the younger generation and connect them with folk culture, the department of language and culture organised a storytelling session for school students today titled ‘Ek Samay Ki Baat Hai’ (Once upon a time) at the historic Gaiety Theatre.

During the session, author Anurag Parashar narrated short folk tales, including ‘Avasarvadita’ (opportunism), ‘Mohak Sanskar’ (charming values) and ‘Vyavaharikta’ (practicality), to students of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Lakkar Bazaar and Government High School, Krishnanagar.

Through these stories, he urged students not to rush into actions and emphasised the importance of social and moral values, respect for elders and good manners. The third story highlighted the need to treat everyone kindly, manage time wisely, choose a career based on one’s interest and excel in it to become a valuable contributor in their chosen field.

Parashar also urged students to explore works by renowned Indian storytellers and inspirational writings beyond their school syllabus and to contribute poems and articles to their school’s annual magazines under teachers’ guidance — a step could become a milestone in their writing journey.

Later, students interacted with Parashar, asking questions about the stories and seeking guidance on becoming good writers.

In addition, students of St Edwards School presented a musical band performance at the amphitheatre, receiving widespread praise from the audience.

The director of the department of language, art and culture, Reema Kashyap, said similar events were being organised every weekend in other districts, including Una, Solan and Bilaspur.
