Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shimla and Chairman, Lavi Fair Committee, Anupam Kashyap said that enhancing the significance of the International Lavi Fair was the administration’s key priority.
He said that this was primarily a trade fair and thus different from the other fairs held in the state. “It holds immense historical importance, therefore it is necessary to promote and expand its relevance with the changing times,” he added.
He made these remarks while presiding over a meeting regarding the organisation of this upcoming fair at Rampur. During the meeting, the DC instructed the officials concerned that all stalls should be allotted well in advance so that the fair appeared vibrant and complete right from the beginning. He also directed the officials to conduct regular inspections of goods and food items that would be sold at the fair to ensure the health and safety of the people.
Kashyap said that a horse exhibition, an important part of the fair, would be held at Rampur between November 1 to 3. He said it was important that it was publicised widely. He also instructed the officials to invite the neighbouring states and directed the Animal Husbandry Department to organise a workshop during the exhibition.
He directed the officials to conduct daily inspections of all amusement rides at the ground to ensure safety, especially of children. He said that a committee would be constituted for this purpose.
The DC also made it clear that Himachali artists would be given priority during the fair. “Himachal Pradesh is home to numerous talented artists, and every effort will be made to ensure they get adequate time for their performances,” he said.
Besides, Kashyap directed the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Sarahan, to organise a special visit for children from Bal Ashram and other orphanages. He also informed that various sporting events such as kabaddi, boxing, badminton along with a mini marathon to raise awareness against drug abuse would also be organised during the fair.
Chairman, Himachal Pradesh State 7th Finance Commission and Rampur MLA, Nand Lal, said that just like in previous years, various government departments would put up exhibition stalls to showcase various schemes of the state government. He said that special effort would be put in to make these exhibitions more informative and well organised.
