A memorial ceremony will be held to honour late journalist, educator and cultural connoisseur Hemkant Katyayan.
The event, organised by the Hemkant Katyayan Memorial Trust, will take place on his birth anniversary, December 25, in Mandi.
Nirmala Katyayan, the president of the trust, and Siddharth Katyayan, a member, shared the details of the event here on Monday.
The ceremony will honour individuals who have made significant contributions to the fields of journalism, literature and fine arts, following Hemkant Katyayan’s legacy.
Among the awardees is 82-year-old Ramesh Banta, a veteran journalist from Joginder Nagar, who will receive the Hemkant Katyayan Inspirational Award. Dr Vijay Vishal, a poet and critic, will be honored with the Hemkant Katyayan Literary Service Award.
The Hemkant Katyayan Excellence in Arts Award will be presented posthumously to Surajmani, the renowned Shehnai player, popularly known as the Bismillah Khan of Himachal.
According to journalist Birbal Sharma, during Hemkant Katyayan's first death anniversary, it was decided to reward those working in various fields of society in his memory.
Following this, the family established the Hemkant Katyayan Memorial Trust, which has been organising the event with the support of the Mandi Press Club and the SVM School management.
