An ex-Army man has been arrested for his involvement in the drug trade, primarily dealing in chitta (heroin), in the Rohru region of Shimla district, police said on Monday. The accused, identified as Kulwant (42), a resident of Chirgaon, had served in the Army before retiring in 2019. According to police sources, he had been working as a drug peddler for Kapil Rajta, an interstate drug trafficker who was recently arrested from the Rohru region.

Confirming the arrest, Rohru Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pranav Chauhan stated that a police investigation revealed Kulwant had been buying and selling chitta for the past one and a half months and was also an active consumer. “Based on backward linkages, the police identified the accused and subsequently arrested him from Chirgaon,” said the DSP. The police have launched a detailed investigation into the case, and further arrests are expected as they continue to crack down on the drug network operating in the region.
