Ex-CM Jai Ram visits fire-hit Tandi village
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, today visited Tandi village in Banjar subdivision of Kullu district to meet the victims of the January 1 fire tragedy and express solidarity.
Thakur mentioned that the village once had a distinct identity which attracted tourists, but now, everything has been destroyed.
He said he had spoken with Union Minister for Urban Development and Energy, Manohar Lal Khattar, who immediately directed the state enterprises to assist the affected families. NHPC officials have already arrived, providing sheets for roofing to help rebuild homes.
Thakur assured them that houses would be rebuilt and that solutions for their problems would be found. He also committed to raising the issue of improving road access with central ministers and promised that a joint effort by local MLA Surender Shourie and MP Kangana Ranaut would provide Rs 10 lakh for road development, easing access for essential goods.
“I have already spoken to the Chief Minister about increasing relief funds for the affected families, similar to the aid provided during the 2023 natural disaster,” said Thakur. He emphasised that with the impending snowfall, the government must expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Thakur distributed blankets and utensils to the 20 affected families and urged local BJP workers to offer full support to the victims. Local leaders, including Banjar MLA Surender Shori, Ani MLA Lokender Negi and Nachan MLA Vinod Kumar were also present on the spot.
