Mandi, April 11

State Congress spokesperson Sanjeev Gularia today hit back at former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur over the Sardar Patel University (SPU) issue. He said that neither any Congress leader nor the state government had said that Sardar Patel University would be closed down.

Yesterday, the former Chief Minister had alleged that the government was trying to find an excuse to shut down the university.

Gularia, while addressing mediapersons here, said that the former Chief Minister was trying to mislead people over the issue of alleged irregularities in the recruitment of staff in the university. He claimed that the BJP would achieve nothing by this false propaganda.

He said, “Irregularities were committed in the appointment of staff in Sardar Patel University. The irregularities are now getting revealed one after the other. People associated with a BJP-affiliated organisation had sent a complaint to the Prime Minister regarding the issue. Thereafter, the Prime Minister’s Office wrote a letter to the state government, asking it to investigate the matter, which has also reached the Himachal High Court.”

Gularia said when irregularities in the university committed during the tenure of the previous BJP government were exposed, the former Chief Minister started politics on the issue.
