Kangra MLA Pawan Kajal today slammed Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur for working on the expansion of Kangra airport to provide facilities for landing of Boeing aircraft. The expansion, he said, would hit families in and around Gaggal town hard.

Pawan Kajal said that about 900 families will get affected by the expansion of the airport and a settled place like Gaggal will get affected by the expansion. He alleged that the Chief Minister was saying that only 40 to 50 families will be affected. This, Kajal said, was wrong.

The MLA clarified that he was also not opposed to the expansion of the airport, but there should be a limit to which people would be dislodged. He said that the airport expansion up to Manji Khad will dislodge lesser number of families but if the length of the runway was extended to 3,110 meters it will dislodge the entire Gaggal town and about 900 families will get affected.

He asked the government to make public the plans, if any, for the resettlement of the people. — OC
