Chamba, February 8
Bharmour MLA Janak Raj has urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to expedite the construction of the Holi-Uttrala road, which is hanging fire for nearly 50 years.
He said that the delay in the project had forced people to abandon their land and homes due to tough living conditions in the region. He emphasised the urgent need for the construction of a road.
He said that the Holi-Uttrala Sadak Sangharsh Samiti was relentlessly pressing the government to start the construction of the road at a war footing. It had highlighted the significance of the road for the people of the Holi area in Chamba and Uttrala in Kangra district.
Janak said that in the absence of a road, the area residents had to travel over 250 km. Besides, he drew attention to an appeal made on social media for the road. He called for immediate action to prevent further migration of people from the area.
The Sangharsh Samiti members have also taken up their demands with the local administration and PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, urging them to prioritise the maintenance and development of the existing infrastructure before awarding new contracts. A tender has been awarded to NCC company but the construction work has still been delayed.
Meanwhile, local people have also raised the demand for the construction of the Holi-Uttrala road on social media.
